I like tunnels/hangers because I can wear hoops with tunnels and hangers are just pretty!
So this question is a little tricky, why? It’s based on personal preference. I use tunnels when I’m stretching my ears and metal plugs as well. Plugs are great for when you’re in the workplace that allows earrings. Plugs are just large pieces in your ear that shows off more of the stone, wood, picture, etc. Tunnels are for when you just want to show off your holes. Tunnels you can see right through and they’re comfy. Tunnels can also be used for when you want a hanging piece, but say the piece is too small of a size. Place your tunnel in your ear and then slide the hangers through. Weights are cool, but if you’re not used to something heavy pulling your lobe down then you may want to hold off. Weights are good for stretching your ear a little so you can up a size. But! Weights are not evenly distributing the weight. They only weigh down the bottom part of your stretched lobe. So by no means am I saying to use them for actual stretching up. I just mean wear them for maybe a day and then stretch up that day or the next. A lot of people will wear weights for half of a week and then place in plugs or tunnels for the rest. Tapers, are not meant to be worn as jewelry or so my research has told me. Because again, un even weight distribution. I wear tapes for maybe a day if say my ears are being stubborn and I can’t get the new sized tunnels through my ears. It helps to get my ear used to the stretch so when I come back I can easily slip the tunnels in. Also, tapers are excellent for helping you to slip in double flared plugs! Bottom line is it comes down to what feels comfortable to you. Like some people swear by double flared plugs while others are nervous by the whole idea of them. I for instance don’t like wearing acrylic plugs because I’m lazy with my jewelry and I leave it in. Acrylic based jewelry isn’t good for your ears and your skin can absorb things in. They also say you shouldn’t wear acrylic for long periods of time. Acrylic isn’t good for freshly stretched ears! But this is my personal opinion. What I’d say is just do you. Order whatever you want and experiment with different jewelry pieces to find what YOU want and what feels best for YOU.
Plugs
I love the simplicity and readiness of my silicone tunnels, I actually prefer to size up using tunnels instead of tapers. I also love plugs whether they be the acrylic pop culture ones or a rose or anchor on a saddle plug. I have one small pair of metal hangers and love them so much! They wet my homecoming attire way back when and I’ve always wanted a small collection of bigger sized ones <3
I prefer tunnels, because I’m at 0g and they look best in my ears.
