Can I wear plugs in my stretched ears in the shower?
Feb 24, 2023 / by Alex Peace
We are constantly asked if our plugs are safe to wear in the shower. The answer to your question is yes, but it depends on the material. Also, showering is your opportunity to clean both your plugs and your stretched ears. Ultimately it is better, healthier, and safer to shower without plugs in your stretched ears. Some material will not like the water or soap from the shower and will ultimately be damaged. Below are a few materials that are safe or not safe to wear in the shower.
Safe Plug Material to wear in the shower
There are certain materials that are ok if they get wet and you wear in the shower. Again though this is not an every day thing.
Stainless Steel Plugs
Silicone Plugs
Stone Plugs
Glass Plugs
Acrylic Plugs
These plugs should be able to withstand a bit of wetness. So if you forget to take them out before your shower these plugs should be ok.
Do not wear Organic Plugs when you shower.
Organic plugs such as wood, horn, and bone should not be worn in the shower. When organic plugs get wet they absorb the water which will eventually cause them to dry out, crack or break. This is why we always recommend cleaning your organic plugs with a natural oil such as jojoba oil. Keep the wood plugs our of water.
Showering is the best thing you can do to keep your stretched ears healthy
This is an obvious thing, but if you are reading this article you might need a reminder. When you shower you should remove your plugs to clean out your stretched ears and also clean your jewelry. Your stretched ears and jewelry will collect bacteria throughout its lifespan. If you do not get this bacteria off your plugs or out of your stretched ears it can lead towards an infection. After showering it is a good idea to massage your stretched ears to break down scar tissue. We recommend massaging jojoba oil into your ears to help break down bacteria and keep your ears healthy. It is also a good time to clean off your plugs after a shower. For more information on how to clean your plugs please click the link below...
