What works best for me is adding weight to size up (if it’s feasible). If not, I usually size up after my ears are nice and comfortable with the current gauge size, I’ll take a hot shower, put lavender oil on my ears (& the new plugs) and pop them in. If my ears are ready they pop in fairly easily. If they’re not, and I am struggling, I try to wait, or go to other sources for weight or smaller sizes in between, for example crystals.
Wear plugs until your ears naturally stretch themselves. You never want to push your ears to stretch before they are ready! You will have a nasty blow out!
I’ve always found it easier to stretch my ears when I’m in the shower. For some reason, the hot water makes it less painful !
Time, patience, high quality metal or glass and jojoba oil. If you’re in pain you’re doing it wrong! (The oil is for daily care not shoving a size your lobes aren’t ready for in there)
I have always preferred to dead stretch my lobes using heavier glass plugs. Single flare glass plugs are super easy to stretch with, as the weight of the plug will naturally and gradually stretch your ears. The glass plugs are also made in 1mm incrimints, so a 2g-0g stretch can be broken up with a 1g, to reduce trauma to the ear.
