I personally have not let my ears close. So I do not know the answer. I always tell people 00g is a safe bet, but we want to hear what you have heard is the "point of no return?"

I had my ears stretched to a 00 for about a year, I had to take them out because I had developed a skin condition that grew to my lobes so it was too painful to wear any jewlery. After I took them out it only took maybe 4 months for them to be at 14 g, almost a normal earing size!
00 is about as big as you can go and still be able to go back to normal.
Honestly, idk if you can say there is a point of no return. I started stretching my ears in 6th grade, and was at 5/8ths by my freshman year and kept them in all the way until I graduated and then decided I’d try to see if I could size down, and it worked. I sized up and instead of keeping them in, I took them out & while the skin was raw, I just let it start closing and it actually closed pretty fast, and it looks fine. It closed all the way back to where I could wear normal earrings again. Made me feel really good to rub it into a bunch of my family members faces haha but my love for streching ears is too strong so here I am 3 1/2 years after taken them out, starting up again, currently at 8s!
i think 00 would be the one because thats how big mine were when i accidentally left them in the shower at a friends house. i just didnt think to put them back for a while and they closed. kind of. is been 3 years and i can fit a screw in there still. its not a huge hole, noone ever really notices but i do
When it comes to stretching your ears and then taking them out to shrink back down there’s no such thing as normal. Once you pass a 10 gauge your holes never close again. It also depends on the body my husband was at an inch and let his gauges shrink he got down to a 0. I also think it depends on how you got pierced in the first place my husband was pierced at an 11 and immediately stretched to a 10 and in his process of gauging was so smooth and fluid he jumped gauges at a time whereas I had my ears pierced as an infant and wasn’t in a rush to gauge so I slowly gauged and never jump sizes.
