Aftercare for a fresh stretched ear

It is important to take proper aftercare of your stretched ears to ensure that they heal properly and to avoid infection or blowout. When you first stretch your ears to a certain gauge size you want to take appropriate precautions in order to avoid injuring your ears further. Remember after an initial stretch your ears technically are damaged and will go through all sorts of natural ways to try to heal the hole in your ear. We want the best and you to have healthy stretched ears.
In this article we have listed some tips to take care of your stretched ears right after a stretch.
Clean your stretched ears regularly:
This is a no brainer, but some people need to be reminded. Keep your ears clean by washing them with soap and water at least once a day. Avoid using alcohol-based cleaning products as they can dry out your stretched ears and cause irritation. No one likes irritated stretched ears.
Keep your ears dry
After cleaning and washing your ears, be sure to dry them thoroughly. Moisture can lead to the growth of bacteria. We do not want your fresh stretch to get bacteria in the ear. Keep the ears dry.
Avoid wearing heavy earrings
Ear Weights are a great way to stretch, but if you just got to your new gauged size you do not want to continue to use heavy ear weights. Heavy weights can cause your stretched earlobes to stretch further, which can lead to tearing or damage. Stick with lightweight plugs or tunnels while you wait for your stretched ears to heal. We recommend using stainless steel plugs during this time.
Avoid sleeping on your earlobes:
When you sleep on your freshly stretched ears, you can put unnecessary pressure on them, which can cause them to either micro stretch or cause unneeded irritation. So if you can try to avoid sleeping on your ears..
Use Jojoba Oil:
To keep your ear moisturized, you can use a small amount of jojoba oil or some other natural oil to keep them from drying out. Jojoba oil also has an antifugal and antimicrobial properties. It will help keep bacteria from growing in your stretched ear. It is a nice thing to add to your ear after you clean them and then dry them. Jojoba oil can also be used to help clean your plugs. Avoid playing with your earlobes:
do you have a nervous tic? Or is it just a habit of yours? It can be tempting to play with your earlobes or twist them, but you really need to avoid this during a fresh stretch. If you play with your ears you can be causing them to want to stretch more which can lead to irritation or microtears. So we suggest twiddling your thumbs.
Be patient:
This should be the first thing on the list, but it seems like we talk about this in every blog we write. It can take several months for your ears to fully heal after stretching them.
