How do I get Coffin Plugs into my Stretched Ears?
Oct 17, 2022 / by Alex Peace
One of our most common questions is "How do I get my coffin plugs into my stretched ears?" Coffin Plugs are a shaped plug and like all shaped plugs they should not be forced into your stretched ears. People new to coffin plugs may have a bit of an issue trying to get them in for the first time. Their ears are used to the round plugs. The majority of the time they can not get the coffin plug in because the ears are not ready or they do not have enough elasticity in the ears to put in the shaped plugs. We also find that more people have issues the smaller gauge their ears are.
We will cover a few different ideas on how you can get your coffin plugs into your stretched ears.
Your Stretched Ears are not ready for coffins.
We make our coffin plugs with your gauge size in mind. So if your ears are at 00 Gauge we have made the coffin plugs to fit into your 00 gauge ears. Typically when your ears have recently stretched to a new size it is used to a round plug. Your ears may not have enough elasticity in order to stretch around the new shaped coffin. You may want to wait a bit until your ears stretch out a bit more in order to help stretch around the new shape. So if your ears were just stretched to 10mm it might fit a little better when you stretch up to 10.5mm and give that a bit more elasticity. Your stretched ears might not have enough elasticity in order to get around the new shape.
People seem to have more issues the smaller the gauge size
We have found that most of the people that have issues getting their coffin plugs in their stretched ears have smaller gauged ears. The 2 gauge and the 0 gauge seem to have the most issues. Again, the biggest issue is that their ears are just not quite ready. Most likely they are on the smaller side of the gauge size. So they might be at 6.1mm and the coffin plugs might fit much better at a 6.6mm. It really depends on the elasticity of the individual ears. We have found a lot of customers who get fed up try one size down. This sometimes works.
So how do you get coffin plugs in your ear?
We suggest trying to get the coffin plug in your ear right after a hot shower. This is when your lobes will be the most elastic. You can also use a natural oil like Jojoba oil to help get the coffin plug into your ear.
We recommend putting the coffin in using what we call the button method. Start by putting the bottom (smaller side of the coffin) in the bottom of the ear and gently pull down on the stretched ear. You can then just pop in the top like you would pop in a button. This stretch is not going to feel the same as a round 360º. Your ears will need to get used to a little wiggle room in the North- South direction. If you are feeling any type of pain you will need to stop and wait until your ears are more elastic.
