We've all either been there or know someone who has... We say we're going to stretch our ears to a certain size and then we just keep going. I would love to hear your opinion on why you think we can't stop stretching. Please share your story below.
I personally started off saying I would only stretch my ears a little. Then a couple months passed and I thought it just didn't look big enough. I decided I should stretch them to just a 2 gauge. This size lasted a while before I got bored. I decided no matter what I would stop at 00 gauge. Guess what, I couldn't stop. My question is, why can't I stop?
I know how far we go will vary per person, but could it be that stretching our ears is actually an addictive process? Please let us know your story and your thoughts by commenting below.

I have been at 5/8th for 5 years and plan to stay at this size for as long as I live. I got a pair of custom made plugs that have a picture of my big brother, Lee, hugging me. My brother has been gone for 3 years now. I am scared to wear them because I don’t want them to break, so I don’t wear them much. But I don’t want to go any bigger or smaller because I want to be able to always wear them when I finally do. I’d be sad if they just sat around. I’ve got alot of compliments on that one pair and I enjoy talking about them because I can talk about my brother for hours. Maybe even days. So I may be the only few people you’ll ever meet that isn’t addicted to stretching my ears. Those that are, that is awesome! My brothers were 1 and 3/4, also a professional body piercer. Because of him, body motification has always been an art I enjoy :)
I started to stretchy ears when I was about 14. I started with belly button rings and slowly moved from there. After about a year or so, I started to also stretch my second hole. When my first hole was at about 5/8, I got a bad pair of silicone tunnels, the insides were WAY too thin and the tore, my ears swelled into the torn part of the center and I had to get them removed at the local ER. They gave me 2 stitches in each ear and had me on my way. Well of course, I kept my second hole stretched. After the first hole was completly healed a few months later, I began stretching my second hole even larger. Flash forward to me currently being 23 with ears that are stretched 1 & 3/8 inches. I’ve had lots of slip ups, down sizes, 2 different sized ears, mis matches, and minor issues from normal things but other than that, I plan on continuing to stretch until I feel like mt lobe is no longer healthy enough to go bigger. Vitamin E oil and tea baths are your lobes best friends! Blood circulation is extremely important once your ears stretch so much, nobody wants dry or discolored ears. I’m happy now that I can flip my lobes up over the top of my ears so I have the choice of wearing my big beautiful plugs, or flipping my ears and not having dangley labia looking lobes ?
I started stretching my ears in 10th grade. By the time I was 18 I was at 00g. I went up to 7/16 and stopped for a few years. When I was 23 I began stretching again. I said I would stop at 1/2in but I just continued on. I went up to 3/4 and stopped for a while. I just recently went up to 7/8 and I for sure am going to stop at 1 in. It most certainly is an addictive process.
I started with regular piercings, and went up to 14G first in High School. I then found my first hangers that I liked, in a 12G, and moved up to those. I didn’t mess with them again until I had been out of High School for a few years, and then began stretching up. I had always planned on never going bigger than 0G, and have gone between that and occasionally down to about a 8G and back a few times. 0G is what’s most comfortable for me, and likely where I will stay.
I’m a short-haired feminine person and love how the longer hanging earrings look with my hairstyle, so this coupled with hearing that 0g or so is the point-of-no-return as far as stretching goes has helped me become satisfied with that size for over a decade now. I love how some larger jewelry looks, though! Some pieces are really gorgeous works of art.
